BIO

Tom and Tom

"Schizophrenics are a whole lot of fun." So says Tom Wolf, and who should know better? The song, "Schizophrenic" (and, some say, Tom's career) is a painful working-through of past-life personality disorders. As a writer, Tom has addressed everything but envelopes: love, the loss of love, religious despair, the loss of love, breast implants, and the loss of love. In addition to Schizophrenic (1992), Tom's body of work includes Chase the Moon with Cyndi Craven (1989) and his latest, the CD, Backslidin'.

Almost as much as his solo work, Tom enjoys co-writing. He earned a Grammy nomination for "But I Did," a song he co-wrote with Jan Smith; it's on her CD, Non Stop Thrill.

Tom is a renowned sideman, contributing tight harmony vocals and an inventive harmonica. In 1998, on the strength of his appearances on a dozen CDs by various southern artists, Tom was approached by the makers of Watch and Learn Video Primers to write an instruction book/video/CD for the harmonica. It is selling well nationally and is also available wherever Tom performs.

The Freight Room, a Decatur, Georgia acoustic club, was Tom's long-time base of operations. He booked music and was sound engineer there for eleven years, sharing duties for the first half of that period with Cyndi Craven, his partner in the sadly defunct but ever groovy folk duo, Chase the Moon. Over time, the Freight Room's bookings grew from a Sunday night jam and a weekly bluegrass gathering to nightly performances which included national touring acts. The Atlanta area Creative Loafing, in an article about the club's demise, quoted musician and television personality Jennifer Perry as saying, "Tom was the heart and soul of the Freight Room. He encouraged many people to develop as artists. There was a magic there that, regrettably, may not be seen again." The Freight Room closed on New Year's Eve, 1998.

In addition to his musical efforts, Tom's artistic temperament expresses itself in cartoons that have earned him the sobriquet, the Prince of Puns. A calendar is in the works.
